Hidden roles in a large group

On the road to Damascus, who can you trust?

Believers and Traitors travel in secret. Discuss, vote and protect your secrets, with or without the Messenger’s letter.

The narrator guides secret nights and daytime councils. Believers seek the Traitors among them. In Messenger mode, protecting a letter adds another path to victory.

The idea

How does it work?

01

Prepare the journey

Gather 8–18 players plus a neutral narrator. Choose Classic or Messenger mode, then let everyone secretly discover their role.

02

Alternate nights and councils

At night, Traitors choose an arrest and special roles act. During the day, players discuss and vote aloud; the narrator enters decisions on the phone.

03

Defend your side

In Classic, Believers win by eliminating all Traitors; Traitors win at parity or with a majority after resolution. With the Messenger, Believers can also reach the final council with the letter intact, without an opposing takeover.

Good questions

Before you
get started.

Do you need Bible knowledge to play Damas?

Babel and Damas take their settings from the Bible. Their rules center on deduction, discussion and hidden roles: no Christian knowledge is needed.

Does Damas retell a Bible story exactly?

No. The game draws inspiration from Acts 8:1–4 and 9:10–18. The convoy, letter and powers are fictional elements created for the game.

Can powers and sides change?

Yes. If the game continues, the active Recruiter must, once per game, recruit a Believer instead of making an arrest on the night after a Traitor is eliminated. The recruit becomes a Traitor and loses their previous role and powers. The narrator follows the game’s instructions for special roles, blocked actions and the letter; a previously photographed card may no longer prove a player’s current side.
