Two words, your pace
Secretly choose the word that matches the category. Builders can read the category; the Misunderstood see their category and both words encoded. If a timer is enabled, running out of time counts as a fault.

Does anyone still understand you?
The tower rises.
The language slips away.
One category, two words and a secret choice. Choose 10, 15 or 20 seconds, or play without a timer. One or more Misunderstood hide among the Builders. Mistakes scramble the language; voting and a possible conversion change the sides.

The idea
Building together sounds simple. First, you need to speak the same language.
Secretly choose the word that matches the category. Builders can read the category; the Misunderstood see their category and both words encoded. If a timer is enabled, running out of time counts as a fault.
Construction flaws gradually replace letters with symbols until only one readable letter remains. Each symbol stands for the same letter throughout the game.
After the round summary, discuss and vote by a show of hands. The chosen player leaves and reveals their side. Any planned conversion happens next, then the game checks for victory. Avoiding the category and words during discussion is advice, not a prohibition.

Made to share
Babel turns a word choice into a social deduction game. Mistakes raise doubts, discussions matter and players can change sides. The tower keeps a record of the building work; it never collapses.
Pass the phone around the circle. Everyone checks their screen in secret, then the whole group discusses and votes.
After the vote and any conversion, Builders win if no Misunderstood remain. The Misunderstood win if at least one of them remains against at most one Builder. Tied votes are resolved by a random draw among the selected players.
Your turn to play
Gather 4–18 players around one phone, then enter their names in seating order.
Set the number of Misunderstood and the choice timer, and optionally enable expert mode or the five-letter aid. The default choice timer is 15 seconds.
The first player chooses a word away from prying eyes. They discover their language at that moment, then pass the phone.

Builders can read the category while their words progressively become encoded. The Misunderstood see both the category and words fully encoded. The starting number is adjustable: the game suggests 1 for 4–7 players, 2 for 8–12 and 3 for 13–18.
No. Each symbol represents the same letter for every player throughout the game. The alphabet changes when a new game starts. Accented letters are treated as their unaccented equivalent.
The fault threshold is half the players present at the start of the floor, rounded down, with a minimum of two. If reached, a surviving Builder is converted after the vote, even if the last Misunderstood has just been expelled. There is at most one conversion per floor.
Faults reset and the starting player changes. In classic mode, Builders see readable words again; in expert mode, the initial masking remains. The Misunderstood keep their encoded language. The symbol alphabet stays the same for the whole game.

No. Babel draws on the Tower story, but play is about words, observation and discussion. Its 4–18 players need no Bible knowledge.
In expert mode, Builders’ words start with one masked letter, or two for words of eight or more letters, without adding a fault. The aid shows five letter–symbol pairs shared by everyone on that floor. Both options can be combined.
